The
mission of Ganesha Fund is to help the cause of Children’s
welfare and health on this earth, through means other than medical or
surgical, such as through education, empowerment, physical exercise and
rehabilitation, diet and nutrition, meditation and other natural means,
without regard to age, sex, religion, nationality or geographic
location.
Ganesha
Fund seeks to achieve its mission by generating funds in a manner that
places minimal financial burden on any individual donor while allowing
each donor to participate actively in the dissemination of funds to
various child welfare projects. The funds will be generated entirely
through "donor" membership issued for a very small annual fee that will
be affordable by all. Ganesha Fund will seek to operate on an
entirely voluntary basis, with 100 percent of its funds being utilized
for
child welfare projects. Such a strategy is made possible only with
Internet technology, and will be a revolutionary model for
charitable organizations.
While there are numerous organizations supporting the provision
of medical and surgical services, and supplies of clothing, shelter,
and food to children, there are relatively few sources of funds supporting
alternative remedies to the personal and physical problems of children
the world over. In recognition of this fact, Ganesha Fund seeks to support projects
that meet all of the following criteria. We seek projects that
a) directly benefit children b)
provide lasting benefits, such as through education, physical therapy,
fitness, and rehabilitation programs as part of an organization or
institution’s routine activity c) involve services other than medical/surgical/pharmaceutical d)
involve services other than the provision of consumables, except when
such consumables are a necessary and integral part of an otherwise
eligible program e) do not involve religious instruction attached to any faith or following f) have a spiritual base free of any reference to, or conduct of, religious proselytizing or exclusion
g) are conducted by a non-profit organization or institution as a
general rule, except where an individual has made a demonstrable public
impact through her or his work at a regional level at the least.
It
should be noted that criteria (e) and (f) relate to the program and
organization/ institution being funded, and not the religious
following, if any, of the child beneficiaries themselves.
In
recognition of the fact that religion in general has served to create
more division than unity among the peoples of the world, and appears at
the root of many of today’s problems in the maintenance of peace
on the planet, Ganesha Fund actively promotes welfare programs
that have a spiritual rather than religious base. Although the name
“Ganesha” is itself derived from the
“Elephant-God”
in Hindu mythology, the reason for this choice of name is a focus on
the elephant—a sagacious creature mightier than the so-called
“lord of the jungle,” the lion, or any other creature on
land—but which is at the same time a gentle being that
doesn’t kill other animals, is endearing to children, and is
perhaps the most sentient and
spiritual creature walking the earth today. Ganesha, as the
“remover of obstacles,” symbolizes achievement. Our vision
at Ganesha Fund is to restore unity, peace, and harmony on this planet
through the promotion of welfare of
human civilization’s most precious and spiritual resource: our
children.
